Paying for your training: ELC, SLC and ELCAS
Most ranks have access to two MoD-funded schemes for civilian-recognised learning, on top of CTP resettlement training.
Standard Learning Credit (SLC)
Up to £175 per year (80% of course fees, you pay the remaining 20%). Claimable annually while serving for short courses and CPD.
Apply through your unit / line manager and the Education Centre — no ELCAS-registered provider required.
Enhanced Learning Credit (ELC)
Up to £2,000/yr (4+ years' service) or £2,500/yr (8+ years), claimable in 3 separate financial years across a 10-year window post-discharge.
Must be a Level 3+ course delivered by an ELCAS-registered Learning Provider. Claim authorised before course start.
